Cloudscape Hill: Regenerative Agriculture and Hilltending Campus

CloudScape Hill is a 5 acre permaculture orchard, garden, and Hilltending campus. The purpose of CloudScape Hill is to provide a welcoming space to engage our relationship to habitat. Centrally located in Michigan, Cloudscape Hill is about an hour drive from Grand Rapids or Lansing, less than an hour from Kalamazoo, and about 20 minutes from Battle Creek.

We are relatively new to CloudScape Hill, only having moved here in May of 2020. The property had been neglected for several years due to the health situation of the previous owner and we are in the process of restoring and regenerating the vibrancy of the land. After an initial observation and planning phase, we began the restoration of a native pasture, bringing in some sheep to help in the process. We also began bringing the woodland paths back into shape, and have installed the first elements of what is planned to be a “mythic forest.” We have also held out first workshops here, and even though there is much to be done, it is already an excellent location for Hilltending. It is and likely will remain a work in progress but, in the near future, there are sure to be more sacred spaces and garden niches .

The establishment of the orchard, garden, and campus began in earnest in 2022. After the planting of the first ten fruit trees in 2021, we planted 50 more in 2022, along with a large strawberry patch and vegetable garden. Plans are underway for next year’s planting and we might also offer internships and perhaps a CSA. Stay tuned!
